Case Analysis

Read the case situation given below and answer the questions:

The history of computer software in Nepal is that not old since the Nepal government has not given any contribution to the development of the evolution of computers and their software. The development of computer software continued with the development of computers and devices. Nepal hired some types of calculators and computers for census calculation. In 2018 BS electronic calculator “Facit” and in 2028 BS “IBM 1401” computer brought to Nepal by His Majesty’s Government (HMG) for Census purposes.

 

The name of Muni Bahadur Sakya comes at the top level for the pioneers of Information Technology developers in Nepal. In 2035 BS Muni Bahadur Shakya developed the first Microcomputer in Nepal. In 2040BS he did his first demonstration of computing in the Nepali language on a microcomputer with the display of Nepalese National Anthem in Devanagari script on a CP/M-based computer. He established High Tech Pioneer Pvt. Ltd company. He also developed a Voice Recognition system, Voice Dictionary, Computer-aided Education, Nepali dictionary, Radiation monitors, Nepalese Subtitle Display, Nepali Multimedia, Telemedicine types of Nepali software.

Sanjeev Rajbhandari, a pioneer of IT development has established a company to provide Internet service first time in Nepal as Mercantile Office System in 2041 BS. This company is known as Internet Service Provider Company in MOS also started to develop Mercantile Brand computers in 2057 BS. Nepal News.com, Pumari Banking software, etc. are worldwide famous software of MOS. Mahavir Pune is another name of the top pioneers of IT development in Nepal. He established Himanchal Education Foundation in 2059 to provide computer education and Internet service to rural students in Magdi and surrounding villages. In 2065 B.S. semi-visually impaired Civil Engineer Him Prasad Gautam has developed software “Dristibachak” for visually challenged people that convert Nepali texts into audio files to help people with acute vision impairment listen to the texts and acquire knowledge.

World-level mobile applications like Cash On Ad, AppliKali, Panic SMS types of many more applications are also developing in Nepal. Chitwanix OS is an Ubuntu-based Free Open Source Software developed in Nepal. Nepal government is also making it compulsory to use the software in various fields like Schools and colleges to prepare documents, Public Service Commission Registration, Teacher Service Commission Registration, Vehicle Taxation System, etc. At present Computer Association of Nepal (CAN) is the governing body of Nepal for Information Technology services. Nepal is also stepping for the development of various software and application to compete in the global market.
