  1. Read the case situation below and answer the questions that follow.

Samona, a middle class. BBA 3rd semester student is the survivor of devastation by a recent earthquake in Nepal. She has lost her mother and her house is converted into debris now. She is staying in her uncle’s house with her father and younger brother. They are mourning at her mother’s death at the same time she has to adjust the environment. All of her relatives and friends come and console the family, which is samona because it reminds the black day of her life again and again. She does the incident. In front of her, she lost her sweet home and mother. But still, she feels pressured to act normally in front of her father. Now her board exam is approaching, an examination is published. She has lots of pressure and stress in her mind. She has been trying devoting all her time to studying even if she does not feel like reading. She is the topper of the class, she thought to continue that position to console her and prove to her relatives that she is normal. Becoming anxious every day, Samona suffers from deprivation these days, she feels server headache is difficult to bear. She visited a physician nearby. He has prescribed some medicine for that but the medicine is not any good to her. She doesn’t feel like sharing her problems with her father and brother because she feels that it is going to hurt them. She is afraid of her own life and felt the world is worthless. There is no meaning of survival. She shares her situation with her best friend Reji who suggested Samona share her anxiety with a psychologist and ways to relieve stress.

Case Question:

  1. What psychological consequences of stress Samona might develop?
  2. If Samona comes to see you, what advice would you provide to manage her situation to a psychologist?
  3. People differ in their way to interpret and handle stress explain this statement; relate it with Samona’s case.
  4. If you were in Samona’s place what would you have done to manage the situation?
