{"id":472,"date":"2020-01-21T08:34:20","date_gmt":"2020-01-21T08:34:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bcisnotes.com\/thirdsemester\/?p=472"},"modified":"2021-06-15T07:55:41","modified_gmt":"2021-06-15T07:55:41","slug":"major-concern-of-sociology","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bcisnotes.com\/thirdsemester\/fundamentals-of-sociology\/major-concern-of-sociology\/","title":{"rendered":"Major Concern of Sociology || Introduction to Sociology || Bcis Notes"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\">Major Concern of Sociology<\/h1>\n<p>Major Concern of Sociology refers to the concept that sociology seeks to find the explanation of three basic questions: why and how society emerges, why and how society persists, and why and how social change?<\/p>\n<p><strong>The major concern of sociology:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Sociology has given sufficient attention to the primary unit of social life.<\/li>\n<li>It has been concerned with the development, structure, and function of a wide variety of social institutions.<\/li>\n<li>No, a sociologist can afford to ignore the fundamental social processes.<\/li>\n<li>It has placed a high premium on the method of research also.<\/li>\n<li>The major Concern of Sociology is with the study of human social behavior and the influence of society upon this behavior<\/li>\n<li>Sociologists are concerned with the task of &#8220;formulating <em>concepts, propositions, and theories<\/em>.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Concept:\u00a0<\/strong>Concepts are abstracted from concrete experience to represent class phenomena. For example terms such as social stratification, conformity, deviance, etc.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Proposition: <\/strong>Proposition seeks to reflect a relationship between the different categories of data or concepts. For instance, lower-class youth are more likely to commit crimes than higher class.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Theories:\u00a0<\/strong>Theories go beyond the concept and proposition that explain social phenomena. Sociological theory is more rooted in factual than philosophical.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Uses of Sociology are:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>To study society in a more scientific way.<\/li>\n<li>It throws more light on the social nature of man.<\/li>\n<li>It helps to know not only our society but also other societies.<\/li>\n<li>It helps to enrich culture.<\/li>\n<li>It studies great social institutions.<\/li>\n<li>Sociology is greater, especially in under-developed countries.<\/li>\n<li>It helps to solve problems.<\/li>\n<li>It helps in planning and social understanding of society.<\/li>\n<li>It helps the government to promote the welfare of tribal or indigenous people.<\/li>\n<li>Finally, as Prof. Gidding has pointed out &#8220;Sociology tells us how to become what we
