It has certain norms and values to operate social activities smoothly.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nature of Social institution:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Social institutions provide better chances for human survival.<\/li>\n<li>The central aspects of institutions are the functions and the roles carried out by their members.<\/li>\n<li>The basic cultural values of a society are embodied in its institutions.<\/li>\n<li>The claims of the institutions upon the members are known as loyalties<\/li>\n<li>An institution is an organized way of doing things, but it represents a common procedure.<\/li>\n<li>The institution is abstract, It does not have a specific location.<\/li>\n<li>The institution does not have members they have followers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Eg- Religion is not a group of people, it has a system and regulation (which carry commitment, faith, belief of god, group bond, etc)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Definitions by Renowned sociologists:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Maciver and Page<\/strong> \u201cInstitutions may be defined as the established forms or conditions of procedure characterized by group activities\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Horton and Hunt<\/strong>, \u201c an institution is a system of norms to achieve some goal\u201d Or activity that people feel is important.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Functions of Social Institutions:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>They simplify the actions and work of the individual.<\/li>\n<li>They provide a means to control society and people who constitute it.<\/li>\n<li>Every individual is assigned a role depending on which he can achieve and regulate his status.<\/li>\n<li>They help to maintain the order in society<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Basic Social Institutions:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The basic social institutions are divided into:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Micro social institutions<\/li>\n<li>Macro social institutions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>1) <strong>Micro social institutions<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Marriage<\/li>\n<li>Family<\/li>\n<li>Kinship system<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>2) <strong>Macro social
