Learning always brings changes in behavior. And once learned, the individual is capable of retaining for at least a certain period. Also, it can be concluded that it brings a permanent change.<\/p>\n<p>S.P. Robbins said: Learning is any relatively permanent change in behavior that occurs as a result of experience.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Learning can be defined as a relatively permanent change in behavior that results from reinforced practice or experience.&#8221; Steers and Porter<\/p>\n<p>Major steps in learning:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Stimulus<\/li>\n<li>response<\/li>\n<li>motivation or drive<\/li>\n<li>reward or incentive<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Significance of Learning:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Improve employee skills<\/li>\n<li>Controlling employee behavior<\/li>\n<li>Identifying skills<\/li>\n<li>Training effectiveness<\/li>\n<li>Behavioral development<\/li>\n<li>Relationship between learning and job performance<\/li>\n<li>Multiple impacts<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Factors influencing Learning:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Psychological factors<\/li>\n<li>Social factors<\/li>\n<li>Environmental factors<\/li>\n<li>nature of learning material<\/li>\n<li>process of learning<\/li>\n<li>the person or &#8216;O&#8217; factors<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Major models of learning or Theories of learning :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Classical conditioning,<\/li>\n<li>Operant conditioning (Voluntary behavior),<\/li>\n<li>Cognitive learning and<\/li>\n<li>Social learning<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Behavior modification:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;OB modification is the application of reinforcement concepts to individuals in the work setting.&#8221; S.P. Robbins<\/p>\n<p>OB mod is important for the application of reinforcement theory some managers use to enhance motivation and performance.<\/p>\n<p>In short OB Mod. is:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a technique to modify or eliminate undesirable behavior and replace it with behavior that is more compatible with goal attainment.<\/li>\n<li>is used to improve organizational effectiveness.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Steps in applying the OB Mod. process:<\/strong><\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>Identification of performance-related behavioral events.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Measurement of behaviors<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Functional analysis<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Develop intervention strategy<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Evaluation for performance improvement.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>A-B-C&#8217;s of behavioral modification:<\/p>\n<p>The central objective of OB mod. is changing behavior(B) by managing its antecedents(A) and consequences(C).
